The Fogo polygenetic volcano caldera is the youngest (15,000 years) and smaller (3.4×2.2 km) collapse caldera of the island. It is also the wildest and less humanized one, being “Lagoa do Fogo” intra-caldera lake a major water resource, historically affected by volcanic eruptions (e.g. 1563 A.D.).
