The Azores Geopark, created in 2010, was recognized as an European Geopark in 2013 and as an UNESCO Global Geopark in 2015. It allies a geoconservation strategy with environmental awareness and education policies, and with the promotion of a sustainable socioeconomic development, based on geotourism.
It is supported on a network of 121 geosites dispersed by the 9 Azorean islands and the surrounding marine area, which guarantee the representativity of the Azorean geodiversity and translate its geologic and eruptive history.
In addition to the geological heritage, there are other reference values in the Region, such as a rich biodiversity and architectural, cultural, ethnographic and immaterial heritage of undeniable value. It includes in its territory 2 World Heritage Sites, 4 Biosphere Reserves and 14 Ramsar Sites.
Araripe Geopark is located in the south of the State of Ceará, in the northeast region of Brazil. This territory is located in a region characterized by the important geological record of the Cretaceous period, with emphasis on its paleontological content, with records between 150 and 90 million years old, which present an exceptional state of preservation and reveal an enormous paleobiological diversity.
